Apathy Idol

So Carrie won...and Bo lost.

Eh.

You would think I would feel something...but I don't. As we learned from the Clay/Ruben conundrum of '03, the Idol runner-up can do just fine.

Frankly, I'm too busy obsessing over what was wrong with Latoya London to care about anything else.

Bo Bice seems to be the more talented yet Carrie won which made me think is the Idol's result rigged? The search on the internet yields that Bo is the most searched idols. Polls yields the same thing. So why did Carrie win? Or is it that America doesn't know what real talent is? Carrie just seem to belt all the songs with out control. Now as for Bo check out his vocal range, his style and his x factor..that's what i call an idol thru and thru.

>>So why did Carrie win?

Because more people voted for her, maybe?

I like Bo, but I love Carrie, and I'm so glad she won.

It was soooooooooo obvious this season that they wanted something different, in an American Idol star.

From day one, there was a lot of hype and hoopla over the fact that "finally, we got some 'rockers' on this show" (which I think was uttered by Randy, early on).

Midway through the show, I was convinced that it would be either Bo or Constantine, as the winner in the end. After Constatine was eliminated, I was positive that it would be Bo.

However, I hadn't considered the "unknown" factor. That factor being Simon. I never used to pay attention to his ramblings, and often dimissed him as a bit of a dolt. But, looking back, I can now see how instrumental he has been in influencing the elimination of several REALLY good singers.

I have noticed how he seems to target the really good singers. Initially, I attributed his comments to just being a really poor judge of talent. Now, I now realize he was exerting his influence on the voting audience.

Let's face it, Simon has been drooling over Carrie from the beginning. And, in the final weeks when the Bo and Carrie were virtually tied, Simon threw his support to Carrie. And, that my friends, is what gave Carrie the edge that she needed, and ultimately the American Idol crown!

Perhaps, Simon has been inspired by the character Ellsworth Toomey from Ayn Rand's, "The Fountainhead."

Before the season even began, I predicted a win by a white woman. I had been correct the year before in predicting a black woman. (Next year? White or hispanic male!)

These guys are in it to make money. They don't make money (or they make less) by "crowning" idols who will eat into the money earned by previous idols. There's only so much cash to go around, so you make sure that this years' model will appeal to a new audience.

Carrie will appeal to the country music crowd, certainly a new market. She also fits the "Kelly Clarkson" profile, arguably the most successful winner to date (one could, in fact, argue that she's the only successful winner.)

Bo, on the other hand, also appeals to a new audience, but I think that the producers or whoever recognized that his credibility (and profitability) will be better built away from "the idol".

Combine that with an interest in preventing a "girl/boy/girl/boy" history, I think that it was a foregone conclusion long before Tuesday.

As to whether the actual voting is disregarded, or the judges/producers intentionally sway voters in a certain direction, well, that's left as an exercise for the reader :-)

If it had been girl/boy/girl/boy that would have been too obvious...

Besides, consider that it's really girl/boy/boy/girl/girl now... Clay was more of a "winner" than Rueben and should be considered in the tally.

A rocker would have no credibility as an American Idol (any more than a rapper would) but will certainly benefit from the exposure that he's had, and the Idol producers will just shunt him off to some label that focuses on music that Bo will sell.
